With the CAA Drone and Flyer Registration scheme you need to obtain a drone Operator ID and a Flyer ID.

The Flyer ID is a registration run by the CAA that requires ALL pilots who fly drones to register.

Do I need to Register

Registration is mandatory and the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Scheme went live on 30 November 2019.  To date there are over 300,000 Drone Operators registered on the CAA Drone and Registration scheme.

All Drone and Model Aircraft users must register even if they are operating a drone commercially and have a Operational Authorisation.

Operators need to register their drone, display the unique Operator ID number they are given and pay a small annual £10 admin fee.  Registration only takes 20-30 minutes and you only have to register once as an operator, not for every drone you own.

Requirements of the CAA Drone and Flyer Registration

You take and pass an online test if you want to fly outdoors. The test is free and you’ll need to pass it every three years.

You need to register as an operator if you’re responsible for a drone or model aircraft. You must be aged 18 or over to register as an operator. There is an annual fee of £9.

All drones and model aircraft need to be labelled with the operator’s unique Operator ID number.

You need both the drone Operator ID and a Flyer ID before you can take your A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) course.

What does it Cost

Anyone responsible for a drone or unmanned aircraft (including model aircraft) weighing between 250g and 20kg needs to register as an operator.  The cost for this is £9 renewable annually.

Anyone flying a drone or unmanned aircraft (including model aircraft) weighing between 250g and 20kg will need to take and pass an online education multiple choice test.  This test is free and renewable every three years.
